Commuting is a Consideration When Buying a Home

February 21, 2011

I have lived and worked in west Los Angeles and in the South Bay for a long time.  One has to be near the main traffic arteries when considering home ownership.  If you work in Santa Monica, downtown LA, Torrance, a good housing option is Culver City.  It is a city very close to the 405 freeway, the 10 freeway, and the 91 freeway.

Housing in Culver City is considered affordable and always gets a glance and a nod from the first time homeowner.  There are alot of one and two bedroom condos under $350,000.  There are gated and un-gated condominium communities. Many of the larger communities have well maintained grounds, childrens areas, fully equipped gyms, saunas, organized activities, etc.

Culver City has quite a number of unique communities within the city itself.  Fox Hills is all about condos; large complexes and small buildings.  Most are well maintained and very secure.   The Pines, a gated community of 300 units, is located on Canterbury.   The Pines is a very well managed complex with low HOA monthly dues.  It is no nonsense with one pool and a small gym.   The Camelot  is a 150 unit complex that is located on Green Valley Cir and Canterbury.  Well maintained complex with  active HOA participation.

There is alot of shopping, and a unique historic city scene with all kinds of restaurants, food specialty shoppes, theatres, and wine tasting.

The Culver City Unified School District has 5 elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.  Culver City has its own police and fire departments.  The police response time has been reported to be 3 minutes.

The city has many parks for all ages and sports.  There are a number of tennis and paddle tennis courts, jogging tracks, award-winning childrens parks, skate parks, the stairs that rival Santa Monica stairs, baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, handball courts, etc.

The east end of Culver City on Venice Blvd, has many furniture stores with the hugely magnificent Buttercup Furniture facility on Helms.
